For over a decade, Scott Smathers has been a dedicated member of the ARC Industries team, making a difference as a participant in ARC’s Group Employment division at Franklin County Children’s Services. But when he’s not working, he’s making a splash—literally!
Scott recently dominated the competition at the Special Olympics Regional Swim Meet, bringing home not one, not two, but THREE gold medals in the backstroke, relay, and freestyle events. Reflecting on his outstanding performance, he shared, “I am proud that I won. I worked hard to win. Mom sent me to all these swimming classes when I was little.” Scott’s determination in the pool is a testament to years of hard work and dedication.
His remarkable tenacity has not gone unnoticed. Brenda Whiting, Program Manager at ARC Industries, praised his unwavering spirit, remarking, “Scott does not give up easily. Many will fall by the wayside, but Scott will keep on going.” These encouraging words underscore the perseverance that drives him forward in every race.
Scott’s success is also a source of immense pride for his family. His mother, Karen, expressed her joy over his achievement, saying, “I am so proud of him to succeed to win 3 Gold medals. All the hard work he put into this, alongside my working night shifts and trying to get him to swimming lessons, has truly paid off.” Her heartfelt tribute highlights not only his talent but also the support and sacrifices that helped shape his journey.
Now, with his sights set on the state-level swim meet scheduled for the weekend of March 7, 2025, Scott is gearing up for even greater challenges. Join us in cheering him on as he strives for more gold and continues to inspire us all both in and out of the pool!
