Rocking the Vote!

Tiaunna Coleman has been an Employment Services Professional (ESP) at ARC for about a year, where she helps young people learn job skills and plan for their futures. When she’s not working at ARC, she enjoys coaching the basketball team at Marion Franklin High School. Tiaunna loves teaching both job skills to her participants and basketball skills to her players.

Recently, while teaching her group at ARC about the Bill of Rights and the importance of voting, Tiaunna discovered that many of her participants had never voted before and weren’t registered. She took time to explain how voting is a right for everyone and why it’s so important.

Thanks to Tiaunna’s encouragement, five of her participants decided to register and vote in this year’s presidential election. This is part of a bigger trend where more people with disabilities are voting. In 2020, voter turnout for people with disabilities increased by 5.9% compared to 2016.
